🚨 Sign Up for the Blood Pressure Monitor Scheme at Canton Library 🚨

Canton Library and hubs/librarians across Cardiff are extending their health and wellbeing offer by launching a new blood pressure monitor scheme.

Alongside borrowing books using a library card, residents can now take advantage of the new loan scheme that will allow them to keep track of their blood pressure.

One in three adults in the UK has high blood pressure, but many don’t realise it. If untreated, high blood pressure over time can lead to several health problems, including stroke, heart disease, kidney disease, vascular dementia and diabetes.

Being more aware of their blood pressure can enable individuals to make positive lifestyle changes such as getting active, keeping a healthy weight, eating healthily, stopping smoking or taking medication to avoid these adverse outcomes.

To help overcome the barrier of the cost of buying the device, the devices are now available to borrow for three weeks to enable residents to monitor at home. Residents will be provided with a booklet about why it’s essential to monitor blood pressure, the causes of high blood pressure, how to use the device and record results and what to do if they are concerned about the readings they take.

If you want to borrow a device but don’t have a library card, you can sign up for free at your hub or library.
