🚨 Support for older residents to claim Pension Credit 🚨

Cardiff Council’s Money Advice team is urging older people in Cardiff to check if they are eligible to claim Pension Credit.

Pension Credit is a valuable benefit, worth £2,677 a year on average, to eligible people of State Pension age. It is available to eligible claimants even if they have other income, savings or own their own home.

More than £12.3m worth of Pension Credit is unclaimed in Cardiff, with an estimated 4,300 missed claims in the city.

The Money Advice team encourages anyone still determining if they are eligible to get in touch as soon as possible. The team can check if a person is entitled to Pension Credit and provide support to ensure residents aren’t missing out on any other benefits or discounts that could help maximise their income.

To be eligible for the Winter Fuel payment, eligible people must claim Pension Credit before December 21, 2024.

The Money Advice team is available six days a week at the Central Library Hub and outreach surgeries at community hubs across the city throughout the week. Find out when they’ll be visiting a hub near you here: www.cardiffmoneyadvice.co.uk/contact-us/,
contact 029 2087 1071 or email [email protected].

🥕🥔🥗 Planet Card Initiative: Helping Communities Access Affordable, Planet-Friendly Produce 🥕🥔🥗

Do you love the idea of enjoying planet-friendly fruit and vegetables, like organics, but find them a bit too pricey?

Cardiff Farmers Market are pleased to share an exciting opportunity to benefit people across the local area—the Planet Card initiative!

Planet Card is part of the Bridging the Gap movement, aiming to make organic and planet-friendly fruit and vegetables more affordable for people who identify as experiencing a low income.

This initiative, organized by Cardiff Farmers Markets and Food Cardiff, gives participants £11 each week to spend on fruit and vegetables at participating farmers' market stalls. It's a great way to access healthy, planet-friendly produce.

The short video here (www.youtube.com/watch?v=miNsQV_3JOA&t=27s) explains more about how the Planet Card works.

Here are some key details about the Planet Card initiative:

✅ Eligible participants will receive £11 each week to spend at Roath (www.riversidemarket.org.uk/roath-market) and Riverside (www.riversidemarket.org.uk/riversidemarket) farmers markets on fruit and vegetables.

✅ Participating vendors include Paul's Organic Veg, Slad Valley Mushrooms, and Coed Organic.

✅ The card is valid through June 29 2025

✅ The program is designed to be easy to use—participants simply present their unique membership number to the trader at checkout.

✅ Participants will also be part of a larger movement advocating for fairer food systems.

🔌 Cardiff Council to support installation of up to 100 new EV chargers in next two years 🔌

Up to 100 new electric vehicle charging points could be installed with Cardiff Council support over the next two years.

The plans are part of a newly published ‘Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Roadmap' to help aid the transition to electric vehicles. The roadmap sets out the council's plan to focus initially on supporting public EV charging in areas with low levels of off-street parking including Heath, Gabalfa, Cathays, Roath, Penylan, Adamsdown, Riverside, Canton, Grangetown and Butetown.

The roadmap forms part of the council's One Planet Cardiff response to climate change, which aims to reduce the 1.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions created in the city every year, 41% of which currently come from transport.
